Obituary

Ray Dunning, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday May 18, 2026 at Light Hill, Canandaigua.

Calling Hours will be held from 10am to 12pm on Friday May 29th at the 1st Baptist Church of Manchester. Services will follow at 12pm at Church.

Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.

Ray was born September 24, 1949 in Albany, the son of the late John and Doris (Petrie) Dunning. He was a Sergeant in the United States Airforce in which he served from 1969 to 1973. Raymond was a proud member of the Phelps American Legion 457 and Son’s of the American Legion. At the Legion he enjoyed running golf leagues and tournaments. Ray also played in golf leagues at Big Oak Golf Course. He enjoyed woodworking in his shop turning “barn finds” into beautiful masterpieces. Ray was an avid sports car enthusiast and loved his 1969 Ford Mustang convertible. He belonged to a Rochester Jeep club from 1974 to 1977 where he and his Jeep CJ5 won many trophies. Ray also enjoyed fishing on his boat, and his and Nancy’s trips to Zephyr Hills, Florida. But most important to Ray was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Ray will be sadly missed by his wife of 25 years, Nancy Peters Dunning; daughter, Deanna (Nate Bay) Dunning; step children, Jeff (Laura) Mason and Amanda (Pete Castellana) Mason; grandson, Ethan Stackhouse; brother in law, John Kardys; sister and brother in law Dave (Janice) Shannon; brother in law Marc (Kim) Peters; feline child, Gracie; grandanimals, Milo, Maggie, Hudson, Romeo and Sasha; best buddies, Dave Mowers and Tom Allen; nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ray is predeceased by his parents, John and Doris Dunning; sister, Katrina Kardys; father and mother in law, Bud and Ruth Peters.
